These do-it-yourself roses make great gifts too!
Who wouldn't love to be gifted a bouquet of flowers? Roses? Yes, please! We love how every color of a rose has a special meaning. Red roses are a pretty big deal when it comes to romantic gestures. What about the other colors? White roses are often used during somber occasions but red and white roses symbolize unity, so they're a favorite at weddings. Yellow roses are associated with friendship and cheer, coral represents desire, peach roses symbolize gratitude and black roses (contrary to what you may think) actually signify rebirth and new beginnings, reports Good House Keeping. But what about these stunning rainbow roses? They're also known as kaleidoscope roses and for good reason. Take a look at this vibrant burst of colors!
Unfortunately, these roses don't really blossom naturally in the garden with these gorgeous colors. But there is good news. You can learn how to make them! A man named Peter van de Werken, a flower grower from the Netherlands, was the person who started creating these stunning flowers according to Floraly. A white or cream colored rose, the Dutch Vendela, is a popular choice to create rainbow roses. Don't try buying seeds that claim to be rainbow roses! You can't create them from cuttings in your backyard either. There's a careful coloring process that results in these beauties. Curious to know how?
Even though you can’t plant seeds of these colorful blossoms, according to Taste of Home, you can still make your own rainbow roses at home. For your DIY roses, you will need scissors, food coloring, and a bouquet of white roses. So what's there to do? Just add 10-12 drops of food coloring to narrow containers of water. Then you'll need a white rose (or any pale-colored rose) that is just starting to open. Once you pick your flower just "cut off the end of the stem, and then carefully make vertical cuts down the length of the stem to create several sections, about three or four total. Gently bend the sections apart and place each into their respective water-and-dye-solution to soak up some color for a few days."
Don't get too excited even though you'll start noticing the colors changing as early as 30 minutes. Just wait a few days. We promise it'll be worth it. Allow the rose(s) to bathe in the dye pools for a few days, that's when the colors get so saturated that they become super-vibrant. Some people also use floral spray-on colors for the effect. Although easy, many have said that this method may be more expensive and not quite as effective as the previous one.
Nevertheless, if you want to gift someone something unique and gorgeous, say it with rainbow flowers! The best part if you did a little bit to create this work of art, so the gift definitely feels extra special instead of the usual store-bought bouquets. Kaleidoscope roses are truly one-of-a-kind and are sure to brighten your loved one's day and add more color to their lives! People are even trying different combinations to create even more beautiful, blossoming works of art!
