'Star Trek' Icon William Shatner Turns 91 Years Old, Fans Share Birthday Wishes

Happy 91st Birthday, William Shatner! The iconic actor best known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk in the Star Trek TV series and movie installments turned 91 on March 22. Tributes to him have been pouring in on his special day. The actor responded to the love and shared on Twitter what he’s up to on his 91st birthday, writing: Thank you all for the wonderful birthday wishes. I cannot wait to see how you are going to outdo yourselves for my 191st birthday. I am away for a few days relaxing and unwinding with my horses & celebrating. Thank you all again.

Not only is the actor a fictional Captain on a spaceship but did u know that he's also a real-life space traveler?! On Oct. 13, 2021, he became the oldest person to launch into space at age 90, aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard spacecraft. He was overcome with emotion as he returned to Earth, telling billionaire Jeff Bezos, "In a way, it's indescribable. Not only is it different from what you thought, it happens so quickly," he added during Blue Origin's live stream, as per PEOPLE.

An emotional Shatner thanked Bezos and his aerospace company for giving him "the most profound experience." "I hope I never recover from this. I hope I can maintain what I feel now. I don't want to lose it. It's so, so much larger than me," he continued. "It has to do with the enormity and the quickness and the rudeness of life and death." "What I would love to do is communicate as much as possible the jeopardy, the moment you see the vulnerability of everything. It's so small. This air which is keeping us alive is thinner than your skin. It's a sliver. It's immeasurably small when you think in terms of the universe," he shared. "I am overwhelmed. I had no idea."
