Natalia Hitchcock of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, has been charged with the death of her eight-year-old son, Oliver. The 41-year-old is charged with first-degree intentional homicide. She is also accused of trying to kill her other son, 11-year-old Leo. According to WBAY, Hitchcock’s husband, who was not named, told authorities that before they arrived, his older son woke him up from his sleep to tell him that his brother was dead. When the Russian-born mother appeared in court on Tuesday for the first time, she was charged with 1st Degree Intentional Homicide and Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide. Her husband of 15 years was in tears and as she was being escorted out of court, she turned to her husband and said, “I’m so sorry… I don’t know what happened.”
On March 30, police were called to the scene where they found eight-year-old Oliver Hitchcock “pale white and bluish in color” on his back. They also noticed bruising on his neck that indicated that he had been strangled. Her husband had been worried about the Russian native's mental health ever since the war between Russia and Ukraine began. A few days before their son's death, she talked about buying survival gear and knives and guns, according to her husband.

“He said that the felt the war between Russia and Ukraine amped up Hitchcock more than ever and that she started to drink alcohol,” reads a criminal complaint obtained by Action 2 News. “Hitchcock was worried that people were going to be coming from a bigger city to attack them.” Hitchcock told police that “someone was controlling her mind and she had been poisoned.” She also mentioned having brain fog and claimed that she was trying to save her sons from abuse. She believed that people were questioning whether she was a Russian spy and according to her, she was concerned people from “the dark web” were going to take away her children.

According to Fox 6, Hitchcock also told a detective that she felt like she had no other choice but to take her life, as per the complaint. At the scene, she "had a critical amount of Tylenol in her system." Officials had found her trying to "cut out her heart" with a knife. She went on to say that "if she killed herself she did not want her kids to be abused and that she thought to herself that she was going to ‘End his suffering with my hands.’" According to relatives, Oliver’s father made the decision to donate the boy’s organs. A GoFundMe set up describes the father as "a hard-working man who loves his family and works as an over the road truck driver. Any single parent knows that caring for a child on their own is no easy task, so the added burden of grieving over the sudden and tragic loss of a child while staying strong for his son creates an exponential burden." It added: Your donation will help them navigate this very difficult road they have ahead of them. Any amount helps. Thank you and God bless you.
