Backstreet Boys Announce Their First-Ever Christmas Album Since '93: "30 Years in the Making"

'A Very Backstreet Christmas' will be out on Oct. 14

Backstreet's back! This time... for Christmas... Fans of the beloved '90s boy band will be delighted to know that they've finally made a Christmas album... for the first time! "It's been nearly 30 years in the making but we're FINALLY putting out a Christmas album and couldn't be more excited to share it with you all," they wrote on Instagram. The album which is called "A Very Backstreet Christmas" is set to release on Oct. 14. The album includes 13 songs; 3 originals and the others will be covers of classic Christmas classics.

Band member Dorough explained why there's been such a long wait for this album. Something or the other would keep coming up but they finally managed to find some time recently due to the pandemic. The 48-year-old singer told ET, "Believe it or not COVID gave us the gift of time to work on this record," Dorough said. "We started working on this about two years ago. Normally, during regular times, we're always on tour. So, now that we have the time off we started working on it."  From 50 songs they managed to bring it down to 13 songs. Bandmate Nick Carter loves "Last Christmas" from Wham! and the band's version of the song is "a really strong contender of being the first single" for the album, he added at the time.

The band was formed in 1993 and consists of Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, and Kevin Richardson. The Backstreet Boys restarted their DNA World Tour in February 2022 with four shows in Las Vegas. The tour originally began in 2019 but had to stop halfway through due to the pandemic. Recently, rapper Drake joined the boy band during their performance of "I Want It That Way" in Toronto earlier this month.

"At 13 years old, I had a bar mitzvah, and at my bar mitzvah, for the first time in my life, this girl I was in love with came up to me while one of the greatest songs in the world was playing, and she asked me if I would dance with her," he said, as seen in video footage shared online by a fan in attendance according to PEOPLE.

"It was the first time I ever felt acknowledged, and it was the first time I ever felt like, you know, I had a shot at being cool. If she can see me now, you know what I'm talking about?" before he and the rest of the band began to sing their hit song.
